Kasey and I attended the Decemberists at Fox Theater in Oakland last week. It was a phenomenal show. Colin Meloy and Co. were on top of it as usual. However, for me at least, Shara Worden from My Brightest Diamond just stole the show every time she took the mic. I can still clearly recall the first time I heard her perform as My Brightest Diamond when opening for Sufjan Stevens in Berkeley. As I recall it, my jaw pretty much dropped to the floor when she sang her first two notes. The theater was quiet - we were transfixed. If you don't believe me - I have some MP3s prove it. I captured her performances of Use Me (originally by Bill Withers) and her original track Dragonfly. I'll also share a few MP3s from the first time I saw her open for the Decemberists at the Warfield in San Francisco. Finally, I've posted my collection of My Brightest Diamond rarities below that. thanks so much for the berkeley recordings. that was the first time i heard her as well, and little did i know i would soon come to love her music. it reminds me of the trip to berkeley by myself in 10th grade to see sufjan. feels good to have the replica of that exact memory!
